Do you like this space?

Go here:
http://www.pkal.org/facilities/index.cfm?show=project&P_ID=234

and then click on the picture of the "Laboratory." This space looks to me like it might be suitable for teaching not only biology, but also some less-service intensive chemistry or other science classes. Do you see any reason this sort of space couldn't serve as a "general science" course that could be scheduled across the scientific disciplines?

  1. I like the open feel and the utilities coming in from the ceiling. I would like to see a floor plan to get a feel for the traffic to the sink pattern that will develop and to see how many people will be sitting with their backs to the pathways.

  2. They manage to get lots of cabinets and natural lighting, which seems to be quite a trick. Tho I'm not sure what it would look like behind the cabinets that appear toward the right of the picture. (Is that a 3-toed sloth on the wall?)

  3. At first i thought it was a wasp nest, now after you mention it it does resemble a mammal. Good call. The only thing i am not sure of is the fixed tables and the columns. Let me know how to post a picture and i will give it a go!

  4. It looks like a nice place but I would like to actually be there and see it or at least get a virtual tour where they map it with a web cam and lets you scroll to see it all. The place looks nice and the tools coming from the ceiling is a great idea. As a student, the biggest thing I would like to see in a lab is enough drawer space to hold all of the assorted beakers, flasks, tubes and otherwise I would need to finish my lab experiments which, at present, it seems our good old Ochoco hall Lab seems to have. That lab looks great but for the more simple stuff, I think what we have is working.

  5. Nothing substitutes for experiencing a teaching space in real life. But it's expensive to travel! So for now the virtual offerings are what we've got to work with.

Thanks for the comment, Kyle. Birdnerd, I'll look into training you up on posting photos. They'd be a great addition.
